Why are there duplicate artist profiles?
Names are not unique identifiers
Different artists can share the same name, and a store may create a new page if it cannot confidently match a delivery.
Use profile IDs and links
Whenever possible, provide the existing artist URL or identifier during release setup.
Do not rename casually
Changing artist names between releases can create additional profile and catalog issues.
Identify which profile to retain
Compare the release history and official links of every duplicate page before requesting a merge. One page may contain music by another artist with the same name, so merging indiscriminately could produce a larger catalog error.
Provide an organized list
Submit the URLs of all affected profiles, highlight the preferred destination and list the UPCs or representative track links that belong there. If different rights holders are involved, describe the relationship rather than assuming one party controls every recording.
Expect platform-specific outcomes
Some stores can merge or remap certain catalog entries; others may only move selected releases. Audience statistics, followers and page URLs are not guaranteed to combine. Verify the track placement after each correction before declaring the issue resolved.
